Search Technologies' Executive Team


Kamran Khan

Co-Founder, President & CEO

Kamran has been developing, supporting, selling and managing in the computer software / services industry for 25 years. For most of that time he’s been focused on search engine technology. Kamran was Senior VP of Worldwide Sales at Excalibur Technologies during its 1990s heydays, building a $50 million international software licensing business with RetrievalWare. A native of Manchester, UK, but now a naturalized US citizen, Kamran provides the company with straight-talking, pragmatic leadership. Kamran graduated from the University of Manchester with an honors degree in Aeronautical Engineering.


John Steinhauer

Vice President Technology & Co-Founder

John is responsible for the day-to-day direction of all technical and customer delivery operations at Search Technologies, managing a growing team of more than 60 engineers and project managers. Known for his hands-on style and attention to detail, John is one of the most experienced project directors in the enterprise search space, having been the driving force behind hundreds of sophisticated search implementations. During more than a decade in the enterprise search industry, John has also managed major software development initiatives. John earned an MBA and a Masters in International Relations from Boston University, on top of his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago.

Paul Nelson

Chief Architect

Paul is an early pioneer in the field of text retrieval and has worked on search engines for over 20 years. He was the architect and inventor of RetrievalWare, a ground-breaking natural-language based statistical text search engine which he started in 1989 and which eventually grew to $50 million in annual sales worldwide. RetrievalWare is now owned by Microsoft Corporation. Over the years, Paul has worked with thousands of customers and has been involved in hundreds of text search installations of all shapes and sizes. At Search Technologies, Paul does design, technology research and training, and provides architectural oversight for clients' projects. Paul has four college degrees, including Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and two for music composition, from Delaware, Johns Hopkins, the Peabody Conservatory, and NYU.


Dennis Tran

Vice President & Co-Founder

Dennis has been successfully selling computer software and related services for 30 years, and for more than half of that time he’s been involved with enterprise search software. A veteran of numerous $million+ enterprise search projects, Dennis takes pride in building lasting relationships with both customers and partners. Driven by a focus on the customer’s business objectives, Dennis has been instrumental in creating mutually beneficial relationships around search technology with a number of Fortune 500 companies. Dennis earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from California State University (Long Beach) and studied mathematics, engineering and business administration at Pepperdine.


John Back

Vice President Sales, North America

John brings a broad range of enterprise sales experience to Search Technologies reaching back to the 1980s during which he delivered multi-million dollar integrated systems to government and commercial users. For the last 13 years John has been engaged with the enterprise search industry, first as Vice President of North American Sales at Convera, Vice President of Federal Sales at QKnow and at Fast Search & Transfer. At Search Technologies, John directs the expansion of the company’s consulting business across North America. John is a graduate of Rutgers University and holds BA degrees in Computer Science and Economics.


Graham Charlesworth

Vice President Sales, Europe

Graham has worked in the software industry since 1984. Graduating with an honors degree in Mechanical Engineering, he soon found his way into the CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design & Manufacturing) world fulfilling pre-sales and sales roles, and during the early 1990s, account managing some of the UK’s largest CAD/CAM users in the aerospace industry. Graham became involved with enterprise search in 1995 after joining Excalibur Technologies. In 2006 he became Senior Vice President for Worldwide Sales at Convera. Graham brings to Search Technologies 15 years search engine industry experience, an excellent reputation with many large European clients, and a strategic knowledge of the enterprise search space.


Iain Fletcher

Vice President Marketing

Iain has been working in the computer software and services industry for more than 25 years, during which time he’s been a programmer, a support & implementation engineer and has held various sales positions. He joined Excalibur Technologies in the mid 1990s and has been working with search engines ever since, primarily in international sales or marketing roles. During this period Iain has been a regular presenter at search industry events across Europe, and has been involved with major search engine projects in the Media & Publishing, Life Sciences and Government sectors. Iain graduated from the University of Aston in Birmingham with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering.
